Well just gotten around to updating my hosts file, already had a few of those in it (have over 16,000 entries in it already), I didn't have #3 and a few others in that list Martyr2 posted. Once the ones I didn't have were added, the site displays almost instantly now!

I actually had problems earlier with DIC being really slow. then, I got several "unresponsive script" errors that said Flash was not responding. Perhaps that might be causing an issue with folks (flash tends to be a little bit slower)

We are not about a settle slow issue though.
we are talking minutes on loading a page.

Well, you have to expect problems on the modern web using dialup. True, this site could use a bit of an overhaul for page load times. But this isn't 1995 anymore; web pages just aren't optimized for 56k internet, and you can't expect them to be.

The youngsters should be glad they never had to use a 2400 baud modem. It is a shame that not all places have high speed Internet access, but at some point, developers have to drop support for older technologies.

2400 baud? I would have killed for a 2400 baud modem... I used to read Usenet on a 1200 baud modem... and that was a step up from the 300 baud with the acoustic coupler.

You try downloading porn on one of those. By the time you get a picture assembled, you're done with puberty and actually dating girls!

LOL, yeah the 1200's and 2400's where only good for certain BBSs, thank goodness technology has come a long way. Always did love listening to the handshake and knowing what my speed was by the sound.

I got a 503 page while trying to reply to this thread.

I'm like a whipped dog shying away from the newspaper.
I compose long replies in a text editor before I post them so I don't lose them when a thread doesn't load.

THere's a plugin for Firefox called "Lazarus" that you might want to look into. It lets you restore that sort of lost post.

I rarely have issues with this site on my 3G connection from home.

Over the employer's network, however, it's a pain in the ass. I click something... then pop to another window and work for a minute or two while DIC is loading. But that is because of the crazy security setup we have here.

I don't go near DIC on my phone because the banner ad sits over the login form and I can't access my account (It's a KIN Windows Phone... uses IE6 with a complete inability to modify, download, delete, or update. It's crap.).

That's because you did it at about 2:00 am EST. It seems like the server goes down briefly for maintenance around that time.

And as for lost posts...if we didn't use javascript to grow the fast reply box, we wouldn't lose the content when we navigated back to the page.

Yes, most of the time around that time(I guess) DIC goes down, saying service is temporarily unavailable.
