I usually develop desktop applications, but I want to know more about developing mobile phone applications. I don't know what to learn and where to start from, please can someone point me in the right direction please.

Next is you go to the development sites for blackberry and iOS and see if Visual Basic is even a language option.

if your not trying to make super graphically enhanced programs/games and know something about web development. try Phonegap, can use a single code base and export to multiple platforms (android, ios, crapberry, and even windows phone 7)

you cant use visual Basic for these platforms. At least you can not do it yet. If you want something cross platform you will probably need html5/javascript that seams to be used by the most cross platform platforms like titanium. If you want to program for the IOS platform specifically then you need to learn objective C
