Hello Fellow DIC members,
I was not sure where to put this, so I will post here.
Problem Statement:
A question game up on another forum, a user was talking about converting a large static site into a Wordpress site.
I'm aware that scripts are available that can traverse a sites link structure and clone them.
Based on this, I was wondering if a plugin for wordpress exists, such that it can "clone" an entire site?
If such a plugin does not exist, it might be a good weekend project? What do you guys think?

As far as plugins... I'm not totally sure. I've never needed to take an existing site and turn it into a WP site.

I've done some extensive searching and haven't turned up any plugins to help with this. I've found some instructions on how to force WP to work with an existing site, but to actually port the entire site to WP, you'd have to do it manually... painstakingly... lovingly... page by page by stinking page.
Sorry if that sounds bitter and disgruntled. I'm currently porting a 5,000 page site to a CMS (not WP) page by page by stinking page. So I guess I am a little bitter and disgruntled.

Because a legacy website that has 5K+ static file is harder to maintain (content) wise than using a CMS. Its a case of "importing" data. Also having a "turn-key" solution. eg put in url click convert.
