Hello guys,
So I've got over two months vacation, and I want to do something useful this period programming, escpecially java.
I've always been interested in gaming general, and thought, "Hey, why not try to learn to make your own games with java?". This would be very fun, and maybe useful when I'm going to start with Android programming.
So, I thought about learning about 2D first before I jump to 3D because I've heard that 3D is really hard. But I'm not quite sure how to begin.
I've no experiences with graphics, and I was wondering, where should I start? What do I have to learn before I can make 2D games? Let's say that I want a game like Snake.. Or simple shooting game in 2D.

Just a background question - do you know Java, and how well do you know Java?

There's a host of books you can find on amazon with the terms "java game programming"..
We have a few tutorials..
http://www.dreaminco...t-1-tic-tac-toe
http://www.dreaminco...-to-repaint-bis
Outside of that read about game engine theory... basic java programming.. etc.

Thanks for tips! I'll check them out
Also, I found this tutorial in Youtube about side-scrolling games, which looks interesting!
I know Java. How well I know.. hmm.. If I compare it with TheNewBostons tutorial (the 2nd link Nuko32 posted), I can almost everything except the drawing part. Also, I need to read more about double arrays
