Does it still cost money to play? I'm not going to pay money to work on spreadsheets, so I've never even looked at it much.

If its free to play, I might consider giving it a shot.

Yes and no. It costs like $13 a month, but you can play for free after you get enough skills. It takes like 3-4 months to make it so you can play entirely for free, making it cost about the same as other brand new PC games. Ive been playing for a year now, I run 2 accounts, and easily make enough money to pay for both. THe longer you play, the easier it gets to make the money, so like for me.... it takes me about 4 days per account to play for free. The rest is just play-money for new ships and helping people.

Every game usually gets to the point where you just get insanely large amounts of money. Eve made it so that you can rack in the cash and pay, or spend some of that ingame money to keep playing.

If people are curious about playing, I can give them a key and if they like it and buy a subscrption, i will give them like 200-300M to play with, as every game starts with "OMG I HAVE NO MONEY WTF DO I DO?!"

Yea, I've played it on and off for about 5+ years now. Amazing game, I just don't have the time that I wish I had in order to play it. Minmatar ftw!

I played the free trial one weekend. It was cool, but it felt empty (that's space, I guess) and it got a bit boring.

The real question is: do any other DICs play (or intend to play) Guild Wars 2?

Aren't Eve and X3 pretty similar? I've enjoyed X3 immensely, although the learning curve is comparable to a cliff. An online version of that seems like it would have an even more interesting economy.

I play all kinds of games (Though I usually try to stay away from any MMOs because of time restrictions), I might check it out.

Hanibal, yes, it is x3 but online pretty much. The only thing is that you cannot control all the ships like in x3. You give your ships commands which is more or less like someone commanding a fleet but when you have a shitton of stuff flying with you in x3, picture each of those being another player.

It is really fun in my opinion. If you want to try it out, i have a few keys and can set you up with some money and learning the ropes. The learning curve for Eve is steep too, but with x3 exp, you would not have any problems at all.

Gungnir, it is a worthwhile investment, though with most MMO's it is a huge time sink because you can get sucked in. Good thing is that skills all train 24/7 so you can log off for a day or a month even, and still be training skills to be a better pilot.

That's interesting. My biggest turn-off would be the inability to turn SETA x10 on overnight and let my fleet generate the cash to expand my empire. If pilots gain EXP while not playing, that might take the sting off...
