StarForge: Minecraft meets Halo

Posted 31 May 2012 - 03:57 AM

So I found out about this, and it looks pretty awesome. And it's free to play. Currently in very, very early alpha, but looks really promising. Video explains better than I can.

What do you guys think?

The building and space stuff looks really good, though it seems like the fighting (the whole point of the game) was an afterthought and has been neglected to add all the other cool features. I know it's alpha so it has plenty of development time left, but I feel that when your two game modes are shooting stuff and shooting stuff that the shooting stuff should be a bit more solid.

I actually like all these minecraft spinoffs even if I end up not liking any one in particular, they bring a game element to something that was otherwise too much of a sandbox.

Though I feel Minecraft invented a new genre of a constructive <insert other genre here> game despite it actually being based off Infiniminer. I don't know if I like Notch, but the game takes its place next to games like Doom (which ironically wasn't the first FPS but is still credited for inventing the genre).

Definitely looks interesting, I do not understand how they implemented the no sky-box limit (you can go into space!, maybe that is part of the world?) but overall, it looks promising.

I saw a video on this earlier too, and I downloaded the demo because it looked really cool to me, I haven't had a chance to play it though... I've been working on a program, but I'll let y'all know how it is later tonight when I play it ;)

I played it for about an hour... It's pretty fun, kind of hard to control though, but other then that it is really fun to play. The physics system is kind of.... annoying... and jumping onto something is just about impossible. Also, if too much stuff is placed, it causes major lags, even on my alienware 17x laptop... other then that, wonderful game that I throughly enjoy playing ^~^
