This is also plausible.

Considering the movie as a whole, it's a train wreck. Ascribing any meaning or significance to possible character development is probably giving it too much credit.

No.. I hated it, but occasionally my brain likes to fill in the craters and gaps with tenuous thought webbing so I don't feel like I got shafted by the ticket price.

Here's the thing: I don't like being lied to.

Prometheus was supposed to be some epic scifi thing. I love epic scifi things. Even if you make stupid mistakes in your attempt at scifi, at least you tried.

Alien was marketed as a scifi horror movie. I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, but I'm ok with them. I enjoyed Alien. I even liked AVP. I actually prefer monster horror movies to creepy psycho horrors movies because, let's face it, creepy psychos are all too real.

Spoiler

It could just be me. I was sold Blade Runner and got Alien, so call me annoyed. However, as it stands, it's just the high budget version of shit everyone's seen before. That's disappointing no matter how you cut it.

i still recommend the movie to people based on how beautiful it was. i had kind of lowered my expectations in advance so mostly i just took the friday the 13th stuff as it came and enjoyed it for what it was rather than what i wanted it to be.

Watching some of the deaths reminded me of Hentai, more than anything else, but instead of weird Japanese sex, what ended up on screen was what hentai would actually look like if you tried it, complete with robot squid abortions.

On another note, it turns out the same guy that gave us the steaming pile of shit that was LostTM was one of the writers on the screenplay for this: gee, I wonder where they got all the stupid pseudo-religious shit from.

There's one way to deal with this. Skip American movies, at least the ones that get marketing campaigns. Works like a charm, and you'll never miss anything worth seeing.

i saw all the trailers and commercials, and the original alien, not really sure what everyone was expecting? i don't think i was promised anything other than what i got.

(i don't want to sound like an apologist, the movie had PROBLEMS, but i dunno if your expectations were one of those problems)
