I am looking for the source code for the PHP language, not routines or functions, but the actual source code. My understanding is that it is open source, but my google searches have turned up nothing. It would be appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction. Thank you.

& Of course it's open source. The executable code isn't compiled. You just type, & test with a browser.

After re-reading your post, maybe you want the php engine source code. Did you try here? It looks like they only offer windows binaries, which are not open source. However the Linux tar-balls are available.
