This is my Win 7 laptop plugged into my 22 inch LED TV (1920x1080). It has two screens (the laptop and the TV), but is top/bottom rather than left/right. Rainmeter is so nice!

Dogstopper, I think it was only 20 bucks, so it didn't break the bank. As a developer, if I find something useful I will support other developers.
