Image to Text Converter

Posted 03 July 2012 - 11:56 AM

Hey All! I wanted to get some feedback on a project I have been working on these past few days. It takes an image and an input text then displays the image using each character of the text as a pixel. It downsizes images to no more than 200 px. I am working on fixing a few issues still.

Valid Image types: jpg/png (and gif however very experimental and resource heavy. Do not attempt unless you think your computer can handle it.)

Valid Browser: So far only firefox seems to work with it. I am not completely sure why but may bee the css styling used.

This can be kinda resource intensive so give the page a few moments to load fully. If the image looks messed up, try zooming out.

And here is an example of it being used. I entered the url to the picture then the text "DreamInCode" finally I chose a background color.

The result

You have a "this is what it does" that doesn't make a lot of sense...
There is no description as to WHY someone would want this... Or what the end purpose of this is...
And no examples: Maybe a before picture, some text and the after picture.

Am I the only one that doesn't get the purpose of this?

Its more for fun. Ive seen Image to text converters, however many don't allow you to input the text that is displayed on the final text image. I thought it would be fun to share. I used it with conversations from me and my best friends facebook conversations and then had that displayed using a picture of us taken earlier in the year. She thought it was pretty neat and made her day. As for something that's completely useful, not really.
