Need help with checklist for move

Posted 04 July 2012 - 04:44 AM

In eight days I will know if I was accepted to any of the eight universities I applied for six months ago! If I am accepted I will move from my family and hometown for the first time in my life, so I decided to create a checklist so I know what I should pack, and I need your help to add stuff to the list.

I had to remove edit-rights for others, since someone though it was funny to delete the entire document. So if you have any suggestion write a comment!

Best regards,
Kim Wahlman

Preemptive congrats.

Depending on if you are moving into a semi funished dorm you can drop the sofa, desk, and bookshelves off the list.

A minimal set of dishes, a bowl, and drinking vessels. Perhaps a lucky pot if you feel saucy.

Cloths.

Toiletries - toothbrush, paste, deoderent, soap (hand and hair), brush, shaving items, preferred toilet paper (lord knows the communal single ply sandpaper sucks), etc... at least enough for a month until you get settled in and find where to get more.

If you are moving into the dorms and have a communal shower - some sort of flipflips or water shoes to keep off myriad of foot rotting pathagens from your associates.

A backpack/satchel.

pens..

a ream of loose paper

Notebooks

Tape - duct and regular/office clear.

Scissors

A small first aid kit.

A bottle of ibprofin/asprin.

An emergency fist full of local currency - enough in case your cards are not working and you need a bucket of KFC to survive the night.

Desk clock/alarm

An obligatory poster or two for the wall:

the one thing I know is that you will loose things stuff in the move, period. it's like where how socks get lost in the laundry machine. I moved almost every 2 years growing up. On our last move we lost 2 boxes of our pots and pans...just gone.

Thanks!
The appartment will be empty, the size will be 21 to 30m². So I will be needed to bring everything except fridge, freezer, stove and stuff like that ^^

I am only looking on appartments with shower and kitchen! I don't wanna share xD
I am looking on this one atm as my "This I want" appartment. This one is 30m²

Plenty of condoms (10 boxes of 24 should be sufficient for your freshman year)

Touching yourself while hiding under her bed doesn't count as getting some. Just sayin'.

Kudos for using condoms to avoid leaving evidence behind though.

he never actually said he used the condoms, he just said he had them--------- I am guessing he had more self love than real sex

Well, you know what they say. If you want to be loved, first you must love yourself.

Congratulations!

Here's some random thoughts on items:

During the 8 or so hours I spent in Stockholm, I got the impression that a bicycle or motorcycle seemed to be required equipment to get around the city. I don't know if the same is true for Skovde. (I hope to someday return to Sweden and see more.)

You weren't very specific about your "toolkit", but be sure to have enough tools to: assemble/disassemble computer and/or furniture, a hammer, a small knife, and a drill with corresponding drill bits and screw bits. A small magnet to fish out that screw that you dropped into the computer, or find the screw that you dropped on the floor. You can never go wrong with a Swiss Army knife or a Leatherman.

Flashlight. (with appropriate batteries)

Cleaning supplies can be bought once you've moved in, but some of us have a favorite shammie or towel for the monitor and/or TV, and the keyboard.

Spare key keeper.

If you like rounded soft furniture, then a step stool or ladder will be come in handy because you can't stack furniture. If you go for standard IKEA furniture, it's amazing how many ways you can stack and climb up them in ways OSHA would never approve. :-)

Desk and floor lamps if the apartment does not come with overhead lighting. Just desk lamps otherwise.

Laundry bag/hamper.

Edit:
Oh yeah speaking from experience after my recent move: can opener, bottle opener, and corkscrew. (I threw out the old ones before the move, and forgot to get replacements. Swiss Army Knife was a good lifesaver until I could get replacements.)
