I stumbled upon this topic yesterday only. Giving this a go.

Aiming for [2D] Reverse tower-defense war game. Although I have no idea how I'm gonna get it to look decent.

I've had to give up on this challenge. I've been spending all of my time at the hospital with my father who is not doing very good. Even if I had the time now, I don't have the will to continue with it right now, but I will wish all of the other entrants good luck and I can't wait to see the final entries!

I am making a chess/checkers type game, but still fishing around for ideas.
A few questions, though:

  • When is the deadline for this challenge?
  • Do Chess/Checkers count as a "war" game? You ARE simulating strategic combat...
  • I guess Chess/Checkers wouldn't be a good fit because both players are the "bad guy" and "good guy", right? Haha!

I don't see chess/checkers fitting the war motif. Perhaps if I'd chosen strategy for the theme.

Thanks for clarifying that. When is the deadline for the contest?

Gather your resources and begin writing your games! You have until September 17th to get your submission in. Anything submitted after September 17th will not be accepted. You do not have to submit your source code, but you can if you wish. All that I require is your output directory.

Here's some screenshots to give everyone an idea of what I've got:
Stick Attack (Alpha) - a 1 or 2 player tower-defense/artillery war game

For a little game, there's resources, good unit variety, and strategy. I've written a readme with the directions, and may try to get them into the game itself before release.
The balance, collision detection, and AI needs a lot of work yet, but it's been so much fun putting my kids & my ideas into reality. I'll release what we have by the due date, but the feature wish list is still long, so we may keep working on it as long as it's still fun...

mod edit: removed unnecessary quote from the post above.. please avoid doing that.

Wronskian,

Your images don't post (at least not for me). All I see is "Posted Image" in plain text. However, when I did a "quote + reply" here to your post, it gave me the URL to your dropbox where the images are stored. http://dl.dropbox.co...ss_20120911.png, for example. However, those links do not work.

Unfortunately, mine will not make it in time for the deadline. My university started its latest semester two weeks ago, and I'm neck-deep in classes at the moment while also slowly adding to the game each day. I'll wait for the next one ;-)

The game is coming along nicely, Wronskian. Can't wait to see what other people have so far. Less than one week left on this one, people. It's crunch time.

Interesting. They aren't showing up for me in Chrome/Firefox. I turned off my Dropbox service and logged out of their site, and still nothing. Oh well, I was just curious at what his/her/their game was looking like. Sorry about the giant quote!
