Personally, my all-time favorite text editor is Notepad++. Aesthetics are really important to me, and Notepad++ delivers in that respect: code actually looks nice because its font is dependent on the language you're using, and the indentation is flawless. I literally freak out when I use a text editor that doesn't auto-indent properly like most IDEs and Notepad++; it's a standard of editor quality that I've grown used to. Notepad++ is very simple and useful, but it has one major drawback: it's built for Windows.
My second favorite editor is Bluefish. Although it's measurably slower than Notepad++ in many ways (load time, code-highlight and parse time, etc), it's almost like an IDE in lots of ways, and it does pretty much everything Notepad++ does. By default, though, even when looking past its relative speed deficiencies, it isn't the near-perfect editor like Notepad++ because it takes some configuration to set a good font (especially in Linux), and the indentation is always screwed up before you manually configure it.
Anyway, let me know what editors you use and why. Thanks!
