Is there a easy way to make a simple text editor?

Posted 12 July 2012 - 11:38 AM

Hi all,

I know there is a ton of open source text editors but they actually have to much for what I'm looking for. I want a simple text editor that highlights reserved words, much like kitchen sink. I'm using Extjs. I found that Ext.Element has everything I could want.. but I cant extend it. Guess I'm just lost with what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it depends on how much work you want to go to to offer reduced functionality.

"Simple" and "text editor" with "highlighted reserved words" are mutually exclusive.

A truely simple text editor could be created with the <textarea> tag
but there is no way to highlight reserved words unless you
write the contents to a <div> section (which then becomes display, not edit, only)

Note also, JS does not have a true storage capability using the internet.
You could copy and paste your text creations and save to a true text editor,
but that sort of defeats the purpose of creating it in JS.
