What font do you use when editting code?

Posted 16 July 2012 - 12:22 PM

After the "hideous" comment on the What Text Editor(s)? thread, what came to my mind was that the GUI was bearable, but that font was just truly hideous.

So instead of taking that thread off topic, I'll start this thread and ask: What font do you use when editting code? Feel free to list multiple fonts if you use one font for code, and a different font for markup (HTML, XML, XAML, .INI files, etc.), and yet another font for builds and or unit test results, and another for debugging. Is there a preferred font size?

I'll start off by saying that for I tend to use "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono" the most at about 12pt. Occasionally for denser markup, I'll switch to "Andale Mono". I used to be a "Lucida Console" fan until I got bitten by a 0 vs O issue that I kept on overlooking for hours. I can live with "Consolas" as long as it is less than 10 point.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Comic sans; my work day may be hectic and intense, but I enjoy a fun and casual font to inject frivolity into my day..

Normally just the default monospace font. I'm not too particular as long as it's not the Windows cmd prompt font. I think I have all of my windows systems set up to use consolas at the console.

At work I've it set for Courier New, 12pt, as I prefer monospaced fonts that are serif when coding. I typically stay away from sans serif fonts whenever possible. Just don't like the similarity between I and l in sans serif for instance. At least there is usually a big difference between O and 0 cause they're close enough together on the keyboard to be annoying.

This is why I just read the raw ASCII. It's hard to get 6C and 31 mixed up.

Times New Roman baby. I'm pretty apathetic, except that I don't care for ASCII if I have a choice.

Usually whatever's the default Monospaced font on the system I'm working on. I suppose if I really had to choose, though, it'd be Liberation Mono.

This guy goes into some detail about what he thinks makes a good programming font, and lists his top 10, pretty interesting.

Consolas every time, because it's the most clearly readable to me. Sometimes Courier with XML.
