I recently stumbled upon a blog post about programmer jargon. It was referencing a deleted StackOverflow thread about unique programming jargon.

It got me thinking, what is some jargon that Dream.In.Code uses?

Anyway... When I am explaining code to other people that look over my shoulder or that I am telling about my program, I normally dumb it down into stuff like pokemon terms like "run" option is typically how I explain exiting a method, the Item for things live values and such, Switch to change up the methods, the Fight as in telling the method or code what to do/run.... Not really jargon but kind of the same thing..

"run" means "exit a method"? Odd.

Typically the only jargon that the users should understand is: "move!".

Help Vampire : Someone that replies "Didn't work" When given a suggestion, or code example. They really just wanted it done for them.

One/Two Punch Spam : When someone posts a highly technically detailed question, & it's their first (& often only) post, & it's answered with a link by another single & only post.

Yeah, I was going to mention Help Vampire as well. They'll bleed you dry if you let them, by coming back over and over again saying "it didn't work, pls give me example". And you cook up a good example that showcases the concept without doing the work for them, and they come back with "i dont understand pls show me how to do the needful". And so on.

Not exactly programming jargon, but "X-ing furiously" has become a part of the local argot that I haven't come across elsewhere.

We also have two employees that were fired after years of wondering how the hell they can keep their jobs while being so incompetent. I think our statute of limitations has run out on blaming Matt and Jared, though.

Those are extremely common, to the point where even non-tech people might recognize them. Especially PITA; that one didn't spawn in the IT world.

Almost everything else so far has been ways of communicating to someone who does not understand IT very well. To be fair, are any of us even sure of what OP really meant?
