Starship Troopers! Sorry its been too long since I saw that one.

you mean *READ* that one.

I know it was a novel first.. I havent read Sci-fi much though. Trying to pick up the habit. Reading Asimov's short stories now.

It's really worth reading. That and Space Cadet and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and you should have some good food for thought for a while - then you can go off and read some Hal Clement and some Harlan Ellison (nice bit of whiplash you'd get reading those two in succession)

Asimov's great too, of course.

I'll check 'em out. Thanks for the tip! My dad has a LOT of sci-fi novels lying about. I need to see if I can find 'em there.

Yes, please READ "Starship Troopers" it is a completely different animal compared to the movie. You may even end up joining the crowd who say that the movie borders on sacrilege.

If you discover you liked "Starship Troopers", James P. Hogan's "Forever War" series is worth a read. Even if you hated "Starship Troopers", I would still recommend "Forever War".

(My ex hated "Starship Troopers", so I kept "Forever War" away from her thinking she wouldn't like it. Later she was desperate for something to read so I lent her "Forever War". I only managed to get my copy back after taking her to a convention where she could go talk to the author and get her own autographed copy.)

Never read anything of Heinlein's, but I think I may have 5-6 novels of his. Will have to check later when I get home. Thanks, you guys. I'll check out Forever War too.

I love how in the Caffeine Lounge, nothing stays on topic. :) Its like the whole forum has ADOS!

Aresh there is no reason to state what you have just said. That statement is horrendous and I think you should apologize to B9 for even thinking it.

To be completely honest, I use the idea of alcoholism as a joke quite frequently. The reality is if I have three drinks a year, it was a big year.

Hmmm... I had you pictured as a heavy drinker. Maybe I judged you wrongly. Anyways good luck with your daughters. Thats one problem I wont have for sometime to come. Even if I manage to get someone pregnant tomorrow, it'll be 12 more years until I come to that bridge.

Joe Haldeman, but yes, Forever War is quite a good read, and it was explicitly written as a response to Starship Troopers. The two novels do form a nice dialog. It's interesting to note that Haldeman was a Vietnam combat veteran, while Heinlein was of the WWII generation, but never saw combat.

They both sound very interesting. Fingers crossed, I'll find 'em in my dad's collection.
