Re: Google Fiber

I never had issues with Insight's internet but the cable absolutely sucked. I had a 1yr deal with Insight and afterwards my bill shot up from $99 to $139. Where I live it is Insight, Dish or AT&T - I loved WowWay when I lived in Blacklick, $99 for Internet, Phone and Cable (With better channels).

The internet with U-verse is pretty good for me, I am getting 15Mbps on wireless - I pay for 18 and nothing is hard-lined so I am getting almost maximum speeds for $59 a month and no contract! The AT&T support are the biggest pack of tardballs I ever dealt with. The issue I would have with the cable was a shitty signal since the modem was in the basement, upstairs rarely ever got signal and the living room was down more than a whore on dollar days on Sullivant Ave. They always wanted to send out reps at my expense and on their time. Screw that shit, I will pass.

If I had Google Fiber - I could do so many activities...

My wife gets us out of rate increases. Everytime they go, "Well, we're going to raise rates" she starts on about how I've been a (fairly) loyal customer for something like 8 years, and if they raise rates, we'll switch to a different carrier. Normally they back off and go, "You know what, why don't you keep the rates you have."

Also, so many activities. SO. MUCH. PORN.

My ISP is so temperamental right now, it makes gamin/streaming videos such a hassle at times. This makes me very jealous of the KC area now, and if I had this I wouldn't need porn anymore. I would just visit speedtest.net and that would do it for me.

You know, they've got these things now called "girls". They're like porn, only better. You should try one some time.

The interface can be a little touchy, less robust than the one you're used to, but on the other hand, "going down" is no longer a bad thing. They also don't parallelize very well, come to think of it - usually, each one wants to be the only process running.

But these so-called girls aren't into multi-core processing. ;)

And, as a rule, they don't follow any sort of recognizable logic, preferring something akin to using a random number generator to formulate references, and anything stored in memory is vulnerable to a strange sort of scrambling to ensure maximum level of user error.

Yeah, that's okay for me. I'm running an old machine, I've just got the one core to work with.

I work for an ISP and they're jumping on the fiber train as fast as possible. We're ~2.5 hours from KC in the Joplin/Carthage Missouri area. I'm not sure how well aware they are of Google Fiber, but they've certainly been rolling some large fiber projects to larger neighborhoods. Everything else is wireless based.

I don't know, I can mount any interface but it's no guarantee a fsck can keep it running smoothly.

Might want to check again. Kansas City, Kansas won at first, but a few months later they announced that Kansas City, MO would also be getting it.
