Nobody's mentioned the first Ghost Rider or Bangkok Dangerous?

Ghost Rider was pretty much the usual comic movie churn out vomited up for the summer. No particularly good, not unwatchable, ultimately forgettable. A real stinker sticks with you.

Bangkok Dangerous? Hmm... not good, but not awful. I used to do Wing Chun kung fu, so I rather enjoyed watching it just for that.

Perhaps you just don't like Nicolas Cage? You wouldn't be alone. I kind of enjoy that he's the most uncharismatic actor in Hollywood. I find it refreshing.

Knowing... now there's a forgettable mess. But you have to admit, Kick-Ass didn't suck.

Star Wars I was pretty good if you take out Jar Jar. You have to remember it was the movie that introduced us to the young Anakin, showed us there are more than just the three jedis (Luke, Darth and Obi) and also gave us tons of back story that helped make the second and third epic. Not to mention is helped bring us Natalie Portman.

But some bad movies...

1) DareDevil with Ben Afleck
2) Superman 4
3) Time Bandits (It was a good plot but damn, the wizard inflating himself up to be a giant pin cushion? He looks more like a tomato). I think if they redid this movie it could seriously rock.
4) The remake of "The Time Machine". The first one was just so damn good and they mucked it up with that remake crap.
5) The later half of Jean Claude Van Damm movies. Time cop, really?!?!?

Of course there are many others... much of what has already been said.

:)

Oh yea, Slice, your name reminded me of another one to avoid. Splice. It started out ok, but then half way through it started getting REALLY odd. And kept getting even stranger at it went on. Then by the end.... the people who wrote it had to of been on something pretty strong.

Bangkok dangerous was terribly stupid, in the kind of way that any Bollywood movie representing American culture (without the benefit of, say, Americans) tends to be. There were a lot of things terribly wrong in really unbelievably stupid ways, but each of them requires some background knowledge of here. I should also mention this movie was a hit with the kind of foreigner here that is generally referred to as a 'sexpat', for hopefully obvious reasons, because a lot of it was filmed in 'sexpat' bars.

I don't really like or dislike Nicolas Cage. I liked him in Lord of War, I've disliked his portrayals in a few movies, but generally he seems like a decent actor who gets shitty roles once in a while, and doesn't sneer at them... thinking about it, I'm still neutral, but more biased towards him than against.

The way it sounds - that Bangkok movie sounds like Collateral.

My top five worst are:
  • Buried - Should be considered a wartime atrocity
  • The Experiment - Really, anything with Adrien Brody goes in this list, but this movie takes the cake, just ahead of...
  • Predators - What a mess
  • Battlefield Earth - Soft target, I know, but it is terrible
  • Another Earth - It had the potential to be anything other than mind-numbingly crap, but achieved that anyway (q.v. Prometheus)

There's others that come close, such as Sunshine, Lost Highway, and anything with Steve Austin or Renee Zellweger, but I'd say those above are the worst I've endured.

No doubt stupid. But then, most movies of that ilk are. Obviously, the more attached you are to some element in the story, like the aproriated culture, the worse it is. Thanks for "sexpat." Frankly, the only Americans I've known that visit Thailand are gay guys. Every culture has overly simplistic assumptions about every other one...

Battlefield Earth ... yeah, it's bad. This thing is, I liked the book; it was fun. That the movie is populated by "true believers" of Hubbard's cult makes it poignantly silly.

Episode 1 was okay. Yeah, Jar Jar sucked, but overall not a bad starter movie to get kids into Star Wars.

I FUCKING LOVE HARRY POTTER. Haters gonna hate.

But Casablanca blows. So does Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. And Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And that one with Bill Murray where he's on a submarine. And Batman and Robin.

I think people write off the Phantom Menace a little too quickly.

In the original trilogy, Darth Vader was all talk & very little action. Darth Maul was a complete bad ass. To me he read like pure evil. Darth Maul showed up, kicked ass, didn't say a word, & left a heartless bastard after getting the job done. Lets also not forget the scene where Obi Wan, old Bed, the gentle wizard, gave into the darkside. After Darth Maul killed Qui Gon Jinn & the doors were shut, Obi Wan just stared at Darth Maul. You can see him giving into the hatred. & when the doors opened, he rushed in with a ruthless assault familiar to when Luke Skywalker overpowered Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, pleasing Palpatine.

It's easy to write off the Phantom Menace because of Jar-Jar. But it really was a much better film than people give it credit for.

Watch all of it, you'll thank me.
