Hey y'all. Name's Sam, found this site by skimming around trying to teach myself a thing or two about coding. In a lot of ways I'm fairly new to it and in a lot of ways I'm not. I spent a good deal of time when I was younger digging through html and CSS coding, even started my own forum and had a side hobby designing style sheets and doing minor web graphics work. That has long since died off and, although I can still recognize it when I see it, I can't hardly reproduce those codes anymore.
In more recent time I've been trying to teach myself BASIC, with the hopes of being able to get a firm grasp on that before moving on to something like C++ or PERL. Now, I say these things not really completely understanding what they mean so please forgive if I say something stupid or ignorant. I've been working with BASIC for a minute now and have, I feel, a firm grasp on it. A few more major lessons and some practice and I think I'll have it down. I've been using QB64, primarily.
I also have Visual Studio 2010 but I've hardly spent any real time digging through there. Like I said, getting a handle on the BASICs (pun intended) before I jump into the heavier things.
Anyhow, found this site and decided to pop in, say hi, and dig around. I'm hoping to be able to glean some good knowledge from the community and I hope I can find a way to contribute in turn.
Pleasure to meet y'all.

If you're talking about classic BASIC - Dartmouth-flavor K&K-style line numbers and gosubs - you might qualify as our resident expert. Welcome, maybe we can find a badge for you.

Not quite, though I've seen the style. I'm teaching myself from a book and one of the things it touched on, though only lightly, was the old number and goto lines. I'm working more with the IF blah THEN blah system. I am by no means any expert, especially, I would hope, among this community. Though I appreciate the sentiment. : )
