Question About Tutorial

Posted 31 July 2012 - 09:56 AM

Hello to all dic members. I have recently started game programming have searched for a site like this to avail till yesterday. My question is on the tile engine from scratch tutorial, I noticed that the compiler used is Visual and i'm using codeblocks. Will the code in the tutorial work with my compiler?

Which IDE you use shouldn't make an difference to the code.
Why not try it and see?

EDIT: By the way, VSX and codeblocks are IDEs - integrated development environments, not compilers. They have integrated compilers, but they are not themselves compilers.

Thanks but my problem is where it say setup, i'm not sure how do that on codeblocks. I now have another question. On the download page of SFML 2.0 there is a download with code::blocks in parentheses is that the one i should use with my compiler?

If I promise that it won't break your computer to get this wrong, will you just try it and see what happens?

In that case, I'd suggest you back up to a smaller project and work your way up to it. It's a long road, and a winding one, but you'll get there.

You're right I guess. I just got so exited with possibility of creating a game like Final Fantasy that i got ahead of myself. Besides i have another project for a text based game that i'm working on, although I haven't got to the actual game part. Between that, trying to figure out how to install the sfml into code::blocks (yes, I'm sure that in my last post i was misunderstood, I meant in the last post that I can't figure out how to install it. My fault for not being more specific in the post), and my day job I'll have my hands full. Since this is my fifth post for the day I can't put the code for my text based game up till tomorrow, if i have the time and my internet cooperates. i'll be up posting it in one of the other forums, and thanks again for your help today.

Sorry I couldn't get you further towards Final Fantasy - you'll get there, though.
