Automatic publisher! DOUBT

Posted 02 August 2012 - 07:30 AM

Hi everyone,

i have a new question for databases management, i have a blog running on my computder, but i dont have all day to keep posting news on it so i created a software that publish my posts for me.

How it works:

1- i create the new posts ( like news ) using a php form, the table (database), that contains all the data, has a boolean column Public.

ex:
id: 1
title: Test
Msg: My msg
Public: false

id: 2
title: Test2
Msg: My msg2
Public: true

this case the user can see all the posts which has the Public set to true.

how my software works:

every 2 hours, it set the last Post (ordering by id) = true, so if i create 10 new posts, in 20 hours they will be online.

MY DOUBT IS: I need to keep the software running in my computer to make this action works, what i want to know is, if there is a way to make this simple program run at my server,or create a new program like a mysql process or engine or whatever to do this work, is it possible?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Why not just setup a scheduled task on your machine to spin up the app every X hours and execute? that removes the need to repeat on the app and it shuts down when not needed.

Some hosting allow you to schedule jobs as well.. but there are options.. like this article by Atwood.
