The gist is it examines your code to see where it can be compacted and consolidated... allegedly to make it run faster and what not. It applies all sorts of crazy analysis techniques to your code to make you a leaner and meaner developer an cut down on bloat and crap.
With all of that it helps VS open up files VS normally wouldn't... provides helper/intellisense upgrades.. houses templates.. and test code.
So it gets all meta up on your code.
If you are looking at testing something out http://www.wholetomato.com/ has Visual Assist X you can download and use a trial of..

AH.. no.. it has a product similar to resharper, and is called "Visual Assist X". It does similar code analysis and what not to help you get a feel of why you might consider going to the meta option.

There is a free 30 day trial of Reharper on their website - give it a try.
Personally I was apprehensive of resharper before I got given it at work - now I love it. I had to turn off some of the intellisense++ as I actually quite like writing my own code, but some of the other refactoring and navigation features are a godsend.

was tired and messed up my references one time(was modifying a local variable instead of a collection item) and RS did some text highlighting to show me the stupid code.
i mean, it took me a little while to understand what the error message meant(i was tired, please forgive me), but anyone else would spot the bad code instantly. That alone is worth the price.
