More information on Magnet Links

I am thinking of starting a new Project that will involve using Torrents (*This is all legal) I was looking into Magnet Links (ABOUT) But all the info i find does nnot explain it in a way that i can understand... Has anyone here had experience using Magnet Links and how they work that would be able to explain it in a more simple way?

to put it very simple, magnet links are a search instruction for p2p files.
