Seriously? Based on the code you posted, it doesn't look like she's done more than a day or two of a basic Java course. Is nobody paying attention to whether or not these people are actually learning anything during their training? I can totally see this mistake being done by a nervous person who doesnt believe in themselves and misread something.

I've seen a lot of people (girls mostly, but a few guys) who have like zero self confidence and make really strange errors because of it, despite actually knowing what they ought to do.

If a person is nervous and stressed out, they will often times LITERALLY DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU WRITE without considering the implications of your language.

I dont really know the situation, but im just pointing this out.

Excuse my displeasure. Regarding the original post, however, I can say that, even as a person who has hardly any practical programming experience thus far, I would have probably laughed at this as well. Or at least smiled silently in my mind. I probably couldn't have taken this intern seriously after seeing this prime demonstration of programming know-how. An amoeba could probably perform better than this, provided it has the motor skills.

Leaving out a semi-colon is an honest mistake. Creating a scanner, then hard-coding a couple of variables, only to print out a static string... That's something else entirely

Wow. This is hilarious. I've been learning Java for FOUR DAYS, and even I know not to do this. The scanner is beyond me, but my guess is that it reads a string input. Then they make the strings, but fail to have them equal to output. Then, to top it all off, the most efficient way to make this code would have been

Hey, I was only four days into my knowledge of programming when I originally posted that.

I was already AT the drawing boards.

By the way, I think I figured out what Mary Johnson's assignment was. I think it was to take your first and last names as inputs, and to have them as output. Here's what I would have done with my current knowledge of java:

The reason for the edit is because I moved the creation of the Scanner inside the for loop fixed my for loop so that it covers my whole code (so that it doesn't skip over the for loop).

I also put a return statement in there (in case someone wants it to return a value).

Oh and if you saw my mistake with the word second, that was my original name for the variable/object/string currently known as last.
