So I'm sitting here typing away and I realized that I have some weird programming habbits. For instance, I can look at code all day and be like wtf is all this crap and not know what to do, butonce I turn out the lights and crank on some blaring music, my mind goes into action and before I know it I have the stuff fixed. Yeah it doesn't sound that weird but the weird thing is that I forget how I did all the repairs of the code until I turn the music back on.
Does anyone else have something like this happen to them when they code?
just curious

When I program, I like to have my t.v. on but mute, then have a playlist of music playing, though when I really get into my work, I "zone in" and don't pay attention to the music... also I will randomly look at the time while coding and wonder "where da fuzz did all the time go?" then I'll feel bad because it seems like I haven't gotten anything done in the past 2 hours....

So... what exactly is the point in having the TV on at all?
On a side note: thanks to the spelling error in the topic title, I keep seeing it as Weird Programming Hobbits... which would just be fucking awesome.
EDIT: Sorry I fixed it then!

I like to strip down to my tighty whitey's, bottle of lotion and box of kleenex next to my mousepad.
[edit] oops I thought this thread said weird pron habits. [/edit]
I still write more productive code in my tighty whitey's

Typically I have to write code without pants on. It's always awkward the first quarter or so when starting a new job, but people get used to it. That is to say I put on my pants when I leave my cube, but when coding it's a pantsless proceeding.
Also, every so often, I go to the bathroom to cry. I think about people that make decisions that affect our lives. The doctors who make advancements in curing diseases. The engineer that designs skyscrapers. The guy that maps out a plane's flight path. (The navigator.) I think about how those people are out there everyday, making a difference, leading big lives, and how they refuse to be intimidated by the tremendous odds of failure they face; How they only concern themselves with peers and company that apply to their goals and noble causes. I think about all that, and I cry.

@OP: No offence, but you sound like an awful programmer. "Sorry boss, I can't do any work until it's dark and there's music".

Most of the time I have to sing my code to the tune of "Call Me Maybe" to make sure it works and when it doesn't I tend to call the police.

I don't have any weird coding habits but when I get in the zone, I pretty much totally just zone out. A few times people have walked in and stood behind me before tapping on my shoulder and freaking me out, which is weird cause I'm RIGHT next to the door. Sometimes my music will stop and I don't notice it until I get bored/out of the zone. And IRC? Not even a possibility. My mind becomes totally focused on my current task, and then the next, and then the next.

@AVReidy - I may have to try that. Do you see massive gains? Good code striations?

@Benign
So I don't feel so lonely and I don't have to face the fact that I'm so very lonely... sitting in a dark cold room for hours on end coding useless stuff

If I'm wired I get all types of tweaky. Add some good coffee and it's a show.
I start listening to Rachmaninov and conduct to myself and fancy myself playing a keyboard along. I've been told I keep rhythm and even have an entire percussive session going on with pens and my feet.
Amusingly if I do the same with Deadmau5 or any form of dub/trance/techno I go straight zombie and don't move an inch.

I've got this weird habit where I randomly tab to dreamincode.net and post in their forums as I write code. I know, weird, huh?
