Games you play after a long time of coding
Posted 15 August 2012 - 01:00 PM
This is more aimed at people who program as a hobby since I am only 15 I program really only as a hobby (though I would be interesting in getting into freelancing some day). So yeah I figure most people in this community also play video games however, I've never really seen them talk about it in any other threads. So yeah my question to you guys is after a long time of coding what types of games do you play to relax if any.

I'd say "MINECRAFT!" but then I remember I don't own one.

This. I think it would be the perfect thing for a nice break from coding. Keep satisfying that urge to continue building something, but while giving your brain a big break.
Other then that, no specific game. I just play what I feel like at any given time. And it usually changes quite often.

POPULAR
I usually play the game that I was just writing code for. I like to call this period of time "testing".

Battlefield 3.
For some reason I always feel the need to shoot people in the face afterwards.

When I did play games, I used to love beating up a few people in WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011.. Ah.. Nothing like taking out your frustrations on a video game character. Especially when its set to 2nd player instead of PC.

Speaking of games, I am reminded of a genius move made by a friend of mine.
Myself and my girlfriend were off out, leaving one of my friends in my house by himself. He had decided that while waiting for us to return, he would hae a go at Unreal Tournament on my PC. Now, we have seen him attempt to play this several times, but his hand/eye coordination just isn't fast enough to keep uo with anyone else playing.
So, we went out and left him to it. When we get home, he proudly shows us his profile screen, which contains every medal and trophy for every level in the game. After trying to claim that he just practised, he finally let us inon the secret.
"Well, the game was running too fast for me, so I started playing around in the settings screen, and I worked out howw to turn the game speed down to 25%."
Moral of the story: Never let your cheating git friends play your games
