I think that depends on perspective. My emulator directory contains nearly every Nintendo game ever made (you wouldn't believe some of the games you've never heard of), it never freezes up on me into the orange screen of death, and I don't have to blow into the .NES files before I put the cartridge in the machine.

As my coworker put it- when a child of the 80's grows up, their controller input just switches from proprietary to universal- everything else pretty much stays the same.
