speaker recognition in vb.net

i am planning to create a speech and speaker recognition software. i am most knowledgeable in vb.net language. from what i have researched, speech recognition is quite simple for vb.net but i have not found anything about speaker/voice recognition for it. it seems that the language of choice for this task is matlab (which i know nothing of). is there any way to do the speaker recognition for vb.net?
