Alienware laptop built in keyboard/mouse not working

Posted 25 August 2012 - 06:43 PM

So I have this Alienware M11x. It boots up and everything on a fresh Windows 7 install, however the built in keyboard and mouse does not work. I'm able to use a USB mouse (haven't tried a USB keyboard yet). If I hibernate and start it back up, the keyboard starts working. Under System Information/Components/Problem Devices, there are two entries for "Base System Device" having no drivers, two entries for "Not Available" having no drivers, "Standard VGA Graphics adapter" cannot start, and "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" not being present, working properly, or does not have all of it's drivers installed.

So, what gives?

Go to alienwarez website and get the drivers... my guess is the fresh install of win7 doesn't accommodate them.

I installed every update available, still having the problems. Under the device manager the keyboard shows up and the status claims the device is working properly. The built in touchpad does not show up.

Well you can delete 'em, reboot, and see if it rights itself.

Yeah, I've done that. It just reinstalls the drivers and I still have the problems.

Boot off a Linux disc in Live mode & see if you get the same results. That will take the 'driver' issue out of it.

PS2/mouse support??? Alienware makes 486's???

Get into BIOS and see what kind of setting you have for USB devices and keyboards / mice / input device.

I've seen it before where you have to enable USB devices at boot up. Could be your problem. It's more of a problem on old PC's that could use USB keyboards but still had a PS2 port.
