Wiki said:

Repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) are "injuries of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems that may be caused by repetitive tasks, forceful exertions, vibrations, mechanical compression (pressing against hard surfaces)..."

Sounds like you could get that through furious masturbation too. Which BTW is another thing you'll get into from programming.

A very good, easy creative outlet. Literally anything is possible on a computer.

A good job, really a buyers market here in South America. Tons of jobs, few good devs.

If I may inquire Sergio, I don't often hear or read anything about I.T. Careers in South America. Could you give an example of an average salary (for the area)? What languages are employers on that part of the globe seeking a developer for?

I can only speak for Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Peru and hereabout.

Average starting salary is about 500$ for a typical code-monkey. In the jobs here you aren't really required to "think" much. Create, Read, Update, Delete.

Since I was an early bloomer (started working my 2nd year of Uni) and I speak native English I commanded more salary and given higher ranked tasks so I earn double that.

Most jobs here for desktop apps: .NET, some older guys use Java. But Bolivia really is a .NET country it's ridiculously awesome!

For the web, I would 80% of projects use PHP. Rarely do you some crap like Java Spring, like once a year or less.

However in La Paz, Bolivia a LOT of devs are swinging towards Ruby on Rails. So go figure!

I hear that massive amounts of drinking and drug abuse helps with that...

Even with that he's clearing 140,000 USD/year, roughly.

edit: double checked. (well done, Sergio!)

FACEPALM! Sorry, it's been a long 2 days now...

USD $347,329.7577, according to the exchange rate at XE and ~4.8 payments per year.
