Receiving SMS into a table

Hey!
I am working on a project and part of it entails processing SMSes that come at particular interval.
The main issue is how to assign some sort of number to my database that would then insert any messages sent to it in a table which I specify for further processing...

Have you thought about just using an automatically incrementing primary key?
