Good morning, D.I.C.

My most recent customer has told me how he would like his website, and I said I could do it. Now it's coming to do it, I can't think of how would be best. Flash, or jQuery.

My customer is a taxi (cab) driver and wants his website homepage to be a round-a-bout, and signs around it for the links. Any ideas?

I hope someone can think of something practical, 'cause I'm thinking that all the links will have to be static, and static is not cool.

I would roll jquery over flash. Flash is on the way out and some systems have issues playing it... at worst even the html 'map' would be fine.

I'll give it a go, and see what I can compose. Although I dare to think how I could position the links, following a circle... it's all part of the fun!

Flash is horrible for website design. It should be avoided at all cost. If it was specifically requested, you better be VERY good at it. All my life I have never seen a "good" site designed in Flash. The only time I've seen flashed used in a good way were on some art-heavy websites that use them for specific smaller modules, like an animated header or footer.

Flash is not the "next generation" of websites. If anything, it was the last generation. Flash is slow, requires your client to download software to run, and is generally hard to make user friendly. You can't copy links, you can't skip past those bad animations, it's harder to index by search engines. Flash is dying, let it.

Flash is also not easily accessible. My workplace, while once insistent on Flash animations in every site, is now requesting that I phase out all of the Flash in exchange for something easily indexed and screen reader-ready.

There may be some cool Flash sites out there. There may be some still being created. But as one who's been in this business a few years, I can attest to the fact that it is a dying art (and rightly so, in my opinion). Calling it "next generation" is something an Adobe fan boy would say.

No disagreement here, however to be fair, you can make bad animations that can't be skipped in Javascript/CSS these days too.
