I had some V-Moda ear buds a while back, and I've never found ear buds that could beat them in sound quality. I currently use some old Panasonic over-ear noise cancelling headphones for work, and some cheap ear buds (no idea who makes them) for the gym. I really would like to get some higher-quality over-ear headphones though, for working and for playing music (I play bass, so they'd need good bass response).

My buddy turned me on to them. They're nice enough, and cheap at the same time.

Koss Portapro. They are only $40, but they sound great. The construction looks cheap, but they seem durable. They are also very compact. The main thing is the great sound. They would sell for hundreds more if they were full headphones.

Why not go back with V-Moda? The Crossfade LPs I have won't disappoint you I'm sure ;)

I'm going to the other way actually, looking to get some of the In-Ear Vibratos.

125 seems like a really reasonable price too.

Sennheiser HD485's for work when I'm listening to music
Sennheiser CX300-II's for audiobooks/comedy at work and at the gym
Etymotic HF5's and Sennheiser HD600's for mixing and listening to music at home

Yep, i love my Sennheisers and have probably spent wayyyyyy too much on them in the past
I've also got an old pair of Koss electrostatic headphones floating round somewhere

That must be some pretty good bass, then.

Before, believe it or not, I went through 100+ earbuds and headphones. The most expensive I bought was for 4 dollars of your money. What I usually buy is 2 dollars worth. It got me thinking, "Wow, I'm wasting too much money with stuff that breaks within a day. " Factor in that I buy these stuff on a dangerous place in my country and that I always ask to test the stuff first before buying. Sometimes I end up not liking what I tested, but for fear of my life I just buy the most tolerable thing that I tested. That was all until I found this:

Phillips' Cheapest Earbuds

I buy them in malls, they have 6 months warranty, and the sound quality is awesome.

Question: how do you test your headphones/earbuds/stuff that pumps out music?

Me, I get my mp3/iPod/phone, pick a song, and play it in full volume. If I like the sound and the sales person gives me a funny look, I buy it.

Actually I'm pretty happy with the Okers I got... I should mention that by "fall apart regularly" I'm also implying their use as both projectile and weapon of war, depending on the imagination of my two-year-old son.

edit: also worth mentioning is the fact that they were some previous year's overstock (hence two bucks) and had the highest decibel output and greatest acoustic range of any of the headphones in the shop I got them from.

I wasn't kidding around when I said "Really good bass". I can't really compare them to skull candies or whatever the Dre ones are called, because I haven't used those, but these would have been a decent deal at ten times the price I got 'em for, and possibly beyond that.

These
