Problem running android apps

Posted 11 September 2012 - 10:00 AM

Hello. I just started learning java a month ago and my main reason really is to develop apps for android. I've tried before but I found out that I need knowledge with java and encountered problems running apps. Now after reading head first java and doing mini projects I found on this site, I think I'm ready again to try android.

So I followed the instruction how to install android on android developer site. Then created a new project in eclipse and run it(the default hello world project) and I stil have my previous problems where my apps wont run. It just stays at launching my app at 100%. I have no problem running the emulator but it does not launch the apps. Well, sometimes it launches hello world but most of the time it does not. Even after waiting for 30 mins or so. What could be causing this? thanks.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

there are several reasons: you may have not install eclipse or the adt correctly.
also if parental controls is enabled it can cause issues. Can you run a regular java program?

I have tried reinstalling adt several times and the problem still occurs. As for eclipse, you just copy paste it right? I can run java programs with no problem. what are parental controls?

If the emulator force closes the app when you launch it, there is probably an error. Post the error message from the Logcat on Eclipse.

It does not force closes the apps. The apps wont even finish launching pass 100%. So there is no error in the logcat. There's also that device chooser manager right? It does not even reach that point almost everytime. Since I posted this question I haven't ran a single hello world android app.

does it say that the emulator has disconnected in the console, or anything else for that matter?
try launching a device from the android virtual device manager, if no errors show up in the console or the logcat then press run

Im launching it in AVD. I ran it last night and it still didn't run after waiting for 10mins or so. Then i decided to sleep with the computer on and when I woke up this morning the app already launched.

I wonder why it's taking that long? I have a friend whose Desktop is much slower than mine and loading his emulator takes time but he can ran his apps with no problem.

Since my last post until today I was only able to launch an app 3x. It just won't launch most of the time even after waiting it out.

Definitely. I can launch the emulator with 7-10 seconds but the problem is launching the apps from the emulator. There's a device chooser window that lets you pick in which emulator to launch the app right? I can't even reach that part most of thetime

The device chooser dose not appear by default.
To change so the device chooser always comes up:
Right-click on you project.
Go down to "Run As" or "Debug As" (depending on what you are going to set)
Click on "Run Configurations.."/ "Debug Configurations.."
Select the "Target"-tab on the window that pops up.
Then select "Always prompt to pick device" then press "Apply"

How the device chooser will pop up every time you Run/Debug you project, but not until the project has been built.

I already have it set that way. But the main problem is, the emulator is loading fine but wont launch apps. How do i fix this? loading stays at 100% for like 1 hour even if I have a pretty good pc. Thanks!
