So I log failed login attempts in my coding of my site and it will block someone's IP for an X amount of time for failed attempts at certain security areas like the login page.
I was thinking though is it worth keeping an IP log and date/time etc. table of users that log into your site or even just visit the site or is this overkill? I was thinking of also just logging successful logins and log offs. What do you think?

Depends on what information you want. Logins and information on your software is your responsibility, but should probably be monitored and logged with backups made.
