Black Mesa Source - out now!

Posted 14 September 2012 - 11:41 AM

There goes my weekend time (outside of the five hours at Oktoberfest).

Quote

The legendary mod project Black Mesa Source an almost complete rebuild of the original Half-Life is now out and ready to go. It covers the whole game up to Xen, with that bit due to arrive later. Everything else is ready to go though, from the tentacles of Blast Silo to the headcrab zombies, and you can attempt to get at its files right now!

I waited for years till this came out. I played Halflife, Halflife 2 and its corresponding episodes And as usual Valve does not count till 3, I want my HL (EP) 3...

But nevertheless, this will keep me occupied :P

Sadly enough I don't have time this weekend, as I am going to a massive air show in Berlin. Choices, choices, choices ...

I don't get it.
The approach was "It's done when it's done" for years and now they releasing it incomplete?

Anyway I'm glad that it *finally* came out, I enjoyed HL1 so much.
Now waiting for CSPromod ;)

Finally! I've been waiting on this for a good while now.

I'm getting a terrible down on the torrent.

I'm uploading nice though.

I'm so glad that this, and Project Zomboid got greenlit. With that remark, I need to remind myself to check out the other games on there too!

Where the hell does the game save the screen shots? They are not buried in the typical steam folder!

If you use the screenshot browser you can "Open Folder" and find where they are. It's usually some randomly nested directory that makes sense to them.

Still halfway through the PS2 version. I'm actually on the part where I subdued 3 ninja hotties then when I entered a door everything went dark and all my high powered weapons were gone.

I'll play this one when I get a PC.

After a bit of playing with this I find it quite fun. I was watching some original 'walk throughs' and man.. yeah the levels have definitely been tuned up a bit. I've only had one freeze/crash of the game.. and my other gripes would be:
- ladders.. they suck getting on, staying on, and trying to get off.
- soldiers - there's not much in terms of taking cover.. just absorb the bullets until the next heal station... same with the aliens.. no dodging the blasts just take'm and keep shooting.
- odd edges on small slopes I walk down force a crouch-jump to get back over.
- the slow walk wasn't working.. which made the tentacle part more tedious than it should be.

Over all.. good stuff.

I LOVE PZ. I was so excited when I first heard about it that I donated right away. After playing it for a while it is exactly what I have always wanted. A sandbox zombie games with no good ending in sight. Just like the real zombie apocolypse will be. :o

I've just finished Half - Life on the PS2(huzzah!) but was a bit bummed at the ending.

Spoiler

I mean, if you choose the latter part, how could Freeman survive that? I played a little bit of Half - Life 2 first when it came out instead of playing 1, but from that one the game assumed Freeman chose the second option. How did he survive? I also know that your ending could carry over to Half - Life 2, but still. Psyched for Half - Life 2! ^^
