The problems have continued after restoring to factory. Just remembered, my aunt has her computer stored in my garage, I could borrow the network card in that. Just one question, if the adapter plugs in via USB, does it even use the network card?

A NIC can be onboard meaning it is apart of the motherboard and can't be physically replaced.
Or it can be attached to an expansion slot which will allow you to swap it out.
Or it can be attached in serial as a peripheral device (USB).

Ah ok, thanks Nullified.

I have directly connected my computer to the modem through an Ethernet cable (actually 3 + 1 phone cord, was a troublesome task) and no drop outs seem to be occurring. I think that crosses off the network card as the problem. And considering both adapters have the same issue, it's probably software based?

Have you tried resetting the tcp/ip stack?

Ok, I have tried that now, never would have thought something like that even existed. I'll report back later.

UPDATE: It has been many hours with no drop it, resetting the TCP/IP stack seems to have done it. Will have to remember that for sure.

Thank you very much no2pencil!

Hopefully that worked for you. It's been a while since I had to pull that rabbit out of the hat, sorry I didn't suggest it sooner.
