C#/XAML question

Posted 21 September 2012 - 11:20 AM

Hello Im just starting to learn c# and I have a question. I've always seen "C#/XAML" and "WPF" when i was searching about c# and and they were comparing it with other language use to develop windows apps. They also said it's "best" language to develop windows apps with. Now the book I'm reading http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/B0040ZN34G is only teaching me about C# and not XAML yet. I searched XAML apps and they look so cool even the helloWorld ones but it looks pretty hard to do. So is xaml an advance stuff that I should only learn when I master C#? and what's their connection with WPF? thanks!

Look at Part 6 of your book which covers WPF.

XAML is a markup language that lets you declaratively describe your UI, as opposed to WinForms where you programmatically build up your UI. There is XAML for WPF, Silverlight, as well as the Windows 8 UI, but they are essentially the same with just some minor dialect differences.

Sorry for the question. I was just a little concerned that the book kept teaching me windows forms and consoles while I kept seeing blogs/posts/topic about XAML and WPF on the internet. Thanks for clarifying. Do I need to master winform before going to wpf?

No, one doesn't build on the other.

Yea I never utilized xaml at first either was more apt to visualy design and lots more c# .. such a great combo for the phone though, so much so that id rather use monodevelop to get apps to all 3 stores then do them in there native languages.

more to the point though I would say you will learn when to use one or the other as they can do alot of the same stuff. :scooter:
