Hi all,
I run an embedded controller company in Australia, SPLat Controls. I have been programming, one way or the other, since 1967.
Right now I am writing a brand new IDE for our controllers. I decided to use VB.NET. I never did learn C beyond reading K&R many years ago and programming a simple calculator. My high level programming has always been some dialect of BASIC, from Tiny Basic, through MS BASIC on CP/M, VB-DOS, VB3 and VB6. I even maintained a BASIC interpreter once for a while, on a 1980's generation of microprocessor development system (GenRad/Futuredata AMDS).
My "low level" programming has been various microprocessor assemblers such as Z80. My forte is tight real-time programming, multitasking systems and finite state machines - all stuff to do with realtime controls.
VB.NET damn near exploded my brain for a few weeks. Now I am starting to see the light, and enjoying the huge possibilities that OO offers. It takes a very different mind-set, which is challenging for someone of my fine vintage. I still have a long way to go. I joined Dream In Code to post a question about an intractable problem I am struggling with in VB.NET.

Greetings! Might I suggest C# before you get any further into VB for your .Net endeavors?
