I know it is a fannie mae file and most resourses say use a program called "Point" to open said files but we can't seem to find that program online.
does anyone know or even heard of it?
We know the file is created using appache but we are unable to find anything else besides that.
Thanks in advance

Based on that I found Apache Lucene. FNM is a certain data file used within that. doesn’t seem like is is supposed to be opened separately.

DarenR, finding it was not hard. The fourth link in a Google search of point fnm led to a Calyx Software message board question just like yours. The fifth link in that Google search mentions "Calyx Point", so obviously...Calyx makes Point. Go to the Calyx website, and whattayaknow?
Looks like if you don't already have that software, you'll have to buy it though.

easier said than done-- I work in the mortage industry thus 99.9% of websites are blocked so I cant view many of them and downloading is not possible without approval.
but thanks anyways

Well, it doesn't look like there's anything really to download anyway. More like it's part of a larger package which can be deployed by the administrator.
If you need access to this file, I guess failing having that software your options are:
1. Ask the sender to provide the data in a format you CAN accept
2. Ask the sender to provide the data format so you can write a program to read it
3. Asking FNMA about the format and how to handle it
4. Reverse engineering the file format
