are mysql connections secure?

Posted 24 September 2012 - 07:15 PM

Is it safe for me to perform mysql connections from a desktop software I created to my database?
Is it possible for users to steal/capture the query or my account details?
I thought of using ftp but wireshark will show the user and pass.

Well regardless of packet sniffing if your connection details are in code then they are vulnerable - Do NOT do this, MySQL or FTP or any critical service, unless you've locked down the account severely.

It's better to have some form of web based proxy that will perform the actions on the server.
