Does anyone have a clear definition of opening and closing (in regards to closing and opening something on an image) and example of each?

No, I looked it up on wikipedia and I suppose its related to erosion and dilation. Here's the link:

Pretty ephemeral context there, but what evs.
I think the example on that wiki page is pretty darn good.
Either way I am moving this out of the graphic design area and into the comp sci area.

I think every industry, group, or subculture has it's on bits of jargon where an normal words have special meaning.
Interesting to find those meanings for opening and closing with regards to image processing.
To skydivers, opening refers to the parachute deployment sequence, while closing can refer to two things depending on context: either doing the last few steps of packing a parachute, or getting the last person into the formation.

That's fine, since I was using the concept to alter images, I thought it would fit better in grapic design.
