Problem with accessing vc_red.msi

I have a problem with accessing the VC_Red.msi file when asked to enter a pathway code for my VM Ware setup. After I enter the source pathway it sends an error message saying that Windows Installer cannot access that file. I am using an external hard drive, for the program please help thank you very much.

The vc_red file is written in C++ so I thought it would be appropriate to be asked here.
