Javascript Audio Manipulation

Posted 01 October 2012 - 09:37 PM

I want to upload files through html and manipulate them using javascript.
Is that possible with javascript and if it isn't what can I use in a website.
I want to make something like soundcloud, but with more options to set the start and stop time of the clip.

Anybody have any ideas? I've been googling all day but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Any ideas?

Setup a database, let people upload files and save them there, then make your front end utilize HTML5's audio element or you can use existing libraries for the audio playing/manipulation part. Here' according to Moz they've got Javascript audio libraries: https://wiki.mozilla...Audio_Libraries

Is this a mozilla only thing? I'm not too worried about internet explorer atm just hoping it works with chrome.

This is great and all but it's not exactly what I'm looking for, it seems like you need to use a custom version of firefox to make this work. I'm more interested in finding out how something like soundcloud is programmed.

It's an API for Javascript and it isn't exclusive to Mozilla, they're the only ones providing the API. Do you just want simple play functionality? If that's so, and you want your users to utilize the latest Chrome or Firefox builds, I suggest just using the HTML5 audio tag with PHP and MySQL as the back end.

no lol, I want to make something kind of like Ableton live, the difference being its all online. I'll take another look at the API and see if I can make something out of it. Either way, thanks for the link, much appreciated :)

Oh, if that's the case then you definitely need to check that out, since that API has sound processing too. By the way, this seems like a big project, I think if you're not going the Javascript API way you can do the front end to serve the sound files and UI while the actual processing will be done by another language altogether in a server.

This is an example of a library that's not for Javascript, http://www.un4seen.com/ look at the list of main features, do you see something that's like the Ableton thing you mentioned?
