MySQL for android

Working on creating an android project. I want to have a database of pictures and store it on the web for easy access and the ability to update it without having to redownload the app. I have been informed MySQL database on a PHP website would be the best for this. Is there anyway SQLite on android could work? Any recomendations for books or resources to give me a crash course on php and MySQL?

I don’t know of a reason why SQLite (itself) could not work on Android. What programming language you use to work with that DB is a completely different question.
