I forgot that you have said you were in ROTC Neo, so I tried to lay off of military terms because I didn't know what marching band would use. The military will use mark-time for turning and stopping in large enough formations, too. I was mostly just curious to see how marching band handles all of the non-drill-standard movements. Drill is a point of pride for the Marine Corps, so I'm always critical of any drill that I watch. If you've never seen the Silent Drill Team, it's worth googling. Recruit drill isn't as complicated (and doesn't use the Garand), but it is every bit as precise by third phase.

You marines and your crazy diagonal marching. We had some marines in my tech school who would always cut off our flights because in the AF, all our marching is straight. So they would march quickly to get ahead of us and then diagonal step in front of us. Our flight leaders were so pissed!

My drill hat (the drill instructor who is right below the senior DI) would always say that he could parallel park a platoon.

Oh well we have half rights and lefts. These marines I think called it an oblique. Rather than turning, the entire platoon would now be marching diagonal.

Oh yes, right and left oblique. It's a real movement, I've just been out for almost 5 years now so I'd forgotten the term for it.
