The e-mail was sent from do-not-reply@mega-petcompany.com to no-reply@mega-petcomany.com.

... wait, what? So you were copied in and the email address were different... am I missing the funny in the whole thing, or is it just the question of promotion of the guy asking for support?

It was an internal message (internal to megapetcompany) from do-not-reply to no-reply that, for some reason, had me copied on it.

I prevent people from having to ask for support. Not supporting them when I or others fail to do that (some exceptions to that, of course).

The funny is in the wtfness of the situation.

I mean, in theory, you wouldn't use a do-not-reply email address when you expect a reply.

further, you wouldn't expect a no-reply e-mail address to get the message you sent.

further still, how did I get copied on it?
A.) I haven't ever e-mailed them directly for anything, but they copied my personal e-mail address. (probable one of my coworkers forwarded something from me, which gave them the address, but still...)
B.) It was an internal message I could never have anyhing to do with unless I worked for their company, which I would NEVER do.

Gotcha.

Your edits provide a bit more background to frame this into some sense.

I think I might see if I can wedge this into the customer service spiel to the new hires.

Email conversation with one of my technicians today :

Hey, so how about this, if it's running normally now, boot off the 'repair partition', open command prompt (you can tab through the menu), change to the C: drive, cd to "Program Files", cd to windirstat, & run windirstat.exe. Select folder C:\windows\ & see if it'll go above 30%

Quote

odd it wont let me cd to C drive.

stuck on X:\windows\system32

tried a quick googling; something tells me im in the wrong spot

Quote

Derp, Dos 101
You don't cd to drives. You enter the drive letter, colon, enter :

C:

Then you cd to the directories.

Email from the rec center secretary:

We need to add pinterest to our site and other printed materials. Pinterest is VERY hot and trendy right now! Not sure how it is done but I'm sure you do!

I fucking hate Pinterest. If I'm forced to spend my days sifting through crap over there, pinning rec center related stupidity to a virtual wall, it may just be enough to push me over the edge. I may finally snap and break out the at-home labotomy kit. Better to wear adult diapers and drool on myself than stare at friggin' Pinterest all day.

I don't work in IT. My boss is the Dean of Marketing and Enrollment. My position falls under what has been deemed "Marketing with IT Support".

I hate pinterest as well... the thing is, I don't know why.

I have never once been on the twitter website nor the pinterest website. Yet the mere mention of them makes me fume with anger over their existence and inexplicable popularity.

And I notice this around the entire tech community. Most of us strongly dislike it... and our reason for it is just a mere description of the service.

"I hate twitter cause it's just a place to post 140 characters of text for other idiots to read!"

Yep... that's what it is. That's exactly what it was designed to be.

Now I know this about myself... I start to dislike things that large groups of people like. Not because I actually dislike the thing, but because I can't stand the people coming up to me and being all like "holy shit dude, have you ever heard of this band called the Beatles? They're like fucking amazing!" Yeah, really? You think you're introducing me for the first time to some piece of pop culture as massive as The Beatles, Stanley Kubrick, or Twitter? Yes... I've heard of it... now leave me the fuck alone.

And I wonder sometimes if my dislike of this Twitter and Pinterest is really just me being a grouch about everything. And I also wonder if that's why other people dislike it.

In the end though... I'd rather be a grouch than go on Pinterest... even once.

Oh, I've been on Pinterest. THAT'S why I don't like it.

It's like 25 million high school girls and stay-at-home moms vomited their minds all over a corner of the internet.

"OMG! This is totally the wedding dress I'm wearing when I become Mrs. Justin Bieber!"

"Ooh! Look! If I save empty toilet paper rolls for the next 3.7 years, I can build a castle for my precious, unique, individual little snowflake!"

"Look at her hip bones! They're so skeletal and awesome! I totally want hip bones like that! I'm going to consume nothing but lemon water until my hips protrude far enough to slice through a tomato like a Ginsu knife!"

It's all the people I didn't like in high school/college/life... all in one place... posting pictures of people like them doing things they want to do.

Fucking shoot me.

That's what I thought it was.

Thanks supersloth and b9 for clearing both quandaries up for me.

it's like anything, shitty people use it for shitty things, awesome people use it for awesome things. you can pick which kind of person you want to be.

it's the old thing where nerds are being exclusionary because someone figured out how to make the internet enjoyable to 'normals' and so they don't like it. see: myspace, facebook, tumblr, etc etc.

I hated Twitter for a long time (before I ever actually used it, of course) because I never pictured anything more useful than "I'm taking a dump #CharminUltra #TweetingFromTheShitter". But then I joined, and shockingly I wasn't automatically following Justin Bieber and every retarded person I'd ever met. I've actually grown to love Twitter. You don't have to experience a single vacuous tweet if you don't want to. I actually don't follow many friends on there; I tend to follow industry professionals and organizations like Wired Science, Extreme Tech, and USA Today. It's a pretty cool way to get news: really short headlines, and if they're interesting you just follow the link.
