The whole issue came up when "Google" (and probably many other online companies) pointed out that not letting a user pick her/his desktop search engine is a violation of the antitrust agreement that Microsoft reached in 2002. Google expressed concerns last year about Vista's desktop search was in violation but Microsoft only took action when the Department of Justice stepped in. They both came to an agreement however, yet Microsoft declared victory over this battle due to the fact that they have said they will patch this issue towards the end of the year.
With this "M$ Wars" brewing up, we all know that we'll be seeing a blood bath coming up soon.
