Backseat Coder - Watch a professional programmer tackle some code.

I've seen some series on Tekpub and Peepcode where you can see how a professional programmer takes on a problem and how he works through issues. It's quite fun to watch and learn how someone's process differs from yours.

I'd love it if the other seniors here would participate in this series showing a topic of choice from start to finish (or at least somewhat complete).

What is Backseat Coder?

It's a live webcast of a professional software developer tackling a clearly defined problem using whatever tool he chooses.

Will it be free to watch?

100% free for anybody to watch.

Will I be able to download the series?

Yes, you'll be able to download a video on demand of whatever series you want.

----------------------------------------------

Upcoming Series:

1. Backseat Coder #1 - Sergio Tapia - Building a library using C# and publishing to Nuget.

In this first episode we're going to christen the series with Sergio Tapia creating a .NET library that provides information for streams on Twitch.tv and Own3d.

After creating the library we're going to publish the compiled dll to Nuget so other developers can benefit from using it.

Subjects covered:

  • HTML Scraping
  • Web interaction
  • Linq
  • Nuget
  • Publishing

So... this is less a thread about how you've stumbled upon some cool stuff to watch and more a plug for your own appearance in the debut episode of the show you originally claimed to have stumbled upon?

Yes.

Here are some series that are pretty awesome from Tekpub, but they aren't free:

Check the thread in the expert forum for more details.

Ah hell, either way, I'm interested. This sounds pretty cool. It's Sergio for Christ's sake. :D

Any chance you could upload to Youtube or somewhere after? Don't fancy staying up till 1 am to watch having some mid-term tests the next day.

Sure I'm still looking at some website options that let people download a stream as a video on demand. :)

Hmm, maybe programming isn't really your cup of tea after all.

I dunno if late night coding is a prereq to be a successful programmer. I'm pretty good about sleeping and living like a normal person. Maybe this implies I sicksuck at programming...

I can't write code during the day because I'm busy living like a normal person. Which means either I'm not at work, and so I'm reading or playing music or cooking or brewing or something, or else Im at work, and I'm either in a meeting or going to a meeting.

Ergo, programming gets crammed into the hours of 10-3.

I also find myself coding better code and being more focused at night. Something about hearing nothing but a dog barking blocks away and crickets - man....

Mix that in with some light rain and baby you got a stew going.

I wonder if any of the episodes would ever end up with the host getting stuck on a problem and asking a forum for help.

Depends if the series is honest or not.
